Consul General


Ms. Israt Ara has assumed the charges as the Consul General in the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Hong Kong on 23 January 2022.

Prior to this, she served as Director General/Coordinator of the ‘World Peace Conference’ held in Dhaka in December 2021. Earlier she served as Counsellor/First Secretary (Political and Administration) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Brussels, Belgium. Her assignments notably in Brussels as delegated to look after the bilateral relations with Belgium, liaison with the European Union institutions especially the European Commission and the European Parliament and OIC as well. She also maintained networking with Think Tanks and other institutions over there.

Ms. Ara also served in different capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including in the UN, Far East, South Asia, SAARC & BIMSTEC, Administration (Policy & Organization and Personnel) Wings. She actively participated/led Bangladesh Delegation in negotiation process of bilateral/multilateral meetings on various issues. A career diplomat, Ms. Ara joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July 2005.

She completed specialized training course on diplomacy and foreign policy from the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh. She also attended training programmes on International Relations, Diplomacy, Negotiations, Regional Cooperation, etc. in different countries including the Netherlands, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore.

She received her B.S.S. and M.S.S. in International Relations from Dhaka University.

She is married.
